About Faith Mentorship
In 2005 Good Shepherd pioneered a program that
paired each of our 9th graders with a caring adult in
our congregation.  They met before or after
Wednesday services for the six weeks of Lent and
went to worship together.

We thought the program was a success... and then
we read the surveys from our 9th graders.  Each
survey was a glowing recommendation of Faith
Mentorship.  So, we're back on for another year!

On Sunday, February 26th from 9:30-10:30am the
fellowship hall will be hosting our Mentorship
Kick-off boasting a breakfast served by our 8th
graders and a chance for students, parents, and
mentors to meet and learn about the six week
program.

Are you meeting with your student at
a different time than Wednesday
night?  Need the appropriate
discussion sheet?

Remember, these sheets are meant to
guide the conversation, not dominate
it.  If you find you and your partner
being drawn away from the sheet don't
feel a need to get back to it.  Go with
the flow!  It'll be there for you if your
train of discussion runs out.
Dear Students and Mentors,

This experience is intended to be an enjoyable and
meaningful time of learning and sharing for the both of
you.  Mentors are not expected to have all the answers,
nor are the students – the Christian’s life is one of
ongoing learning and growing.  The idea is to explore
together both the context and meaning of faith as it
relates to your daily lives.

You will meet at times you decide upon together –
you will not be meeting as a class, so you can design
your times together to fit your busy lives and schedules.
Where you meet is also up to you.  I encourage you to
look ahead through the entire manual as some of the
activities will require more preparation time than others
and some are tied to experiences that may not be regular
occurrences or that happen at certain times.  These
modules may be done in any order!

Your goal is to finish the manual by the end of
September.  What you write in your journal is private –
it is between you and your mentor.  I will not ask to see
the journals – all that is required is for the mentor to
turn in to me the completion page found in the mentor’s
journal.

I suggest you use the New Revised Standard
Version (NRSV) of the Bible because it is the cleanest
translation and easy to understand, but any version will
work.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call
me at church.

My prayer is that God bless your learning and your
growing and strengthen the faith of both of you as your
explore what it means to be a Lutheran Christian
together.
